Tally for Mac
Watch your following grow.
Tally lives in your menu bar and keeps count of your followers on X and Instagram. It checks every hour, so you can stop refreshing.
Overview
One number, kept honestly.
I'm just starting out as a creator, and I wanted to know whether anything I post moves the needle. Tally is the little app I made to find out.
In the menu bar
Your total sits next to the clock. Click it for the curve, both accounts and what's next.
A curve, not a number
Seven days, a month, a quarter, or since the beginning. Hover anywhere to see that day.
Milestones that notice
Cross 100, 500 or 1,000 and you'll hear about it, with a guess at when you'll reach the next one.
At a glance
Everything, one click away.
Today, your pace, your best day and the next milestone. The way Dashboard used to keep the weather a keystroke away.
How it counts
No API keys. No refresh button.
Tally reads your profiles the same way you would, just more often and without getting distracted.
Nothing to sign in to.
Type your handle and Tally opens your public profile in a hidden page, the way Safari would, and reads the exact follower count X sends along with it.
Sign in once, then forget about it.
Instagram only shows counts to people who are signed in. Tally opens Instagram's own login page in a small window, keeps the session on your Mac, and from then on reads any profile you ask for.
Tally never sees your password. If Instagram ever logs you out, the account shows a Sign in button.
Often enough to see a curve, rarely enough to be polite.
Tally checks once an hour, when your Mac wakes up, and whenever you open the panel if it's been more than a quarter of an hour. Each check takes about two seconds.
Your numbers stay yours.
Every reading is a line in a small file on your Mac. There's no account, no server and no analytics, and nothing leaves your computer except the visits to your own profiles.
Milestones
Small wins, noticed.
The first hundred is the hardest. Tally taps you on the shoulder when you get there, and at every mark after.
Availability
Coming to your menu bar.
Tally isn't out yet.
It's in private beta on my own Mac while I grow my accounts from zero. Follow along and you'll see it first, along with the curve it's been drawing.
